When we talk about tortillas, we’ll always be thinking about two kinds– corn tortilla and flour tortilla. So which one of the two is the best to have when you’re in the mood for a taco or burrito? Most people will say that they’re pretty much the same but they do have their own differences. That’s why most people get into the debate that corn tortillas are better than flour tortillas or flour tortillas are better than corn tortillas.
If you really want to know which the best is, you must first know the differences between the two:
- Softness
The first thing we’ll compare of the two is the softness. In this aspect, the flour tortillas are softer which makes them more palatable. It’s the choice to have if you want something that’s a little easier to chew. The corn tortilla is harder but it does make a really good hard and crispy tacos. So while flour tortillas are softer, they are not necessarily better because not everyone likes soft tortillas. Some like crunchier ones.
- Versatility
Tortillas that are made out of flour generally have more versatility than corn types. That’s actually why flour tortillas are used more often in homes than corn tortillas.
- Flavor
Last is the flavor of the tortilla wrap. Obviously, corn tortillas have more flavor. Which is why they mix pretty well with taco, meat and vegetables.
So if we were to evaluate these two types of tortilla, they’re actually tied. So the best one will really depend on your own preference and taste. It’s really hard to say whether there’s a better one out of the two since they’re both unique in their own way.
In El Caballito, we have a collection of dishes that may make use of either of these types of wraps. Try out whichever one you like the best!
